1121 Vaughn Covil

Biography

Young midfielder Vaughn Covil joined the Tigers in July 2022, a low profile signing for the Under-21 side that soon gained more notice when he came off the first team bench for his senior City debut on the opening day of the 2022/23 season. He spent the opening weeks acting as an effective impact substitute for Shota Arveladze’s first team squad before a knee injury sustained at the end of August 2022 ended his first season prematurely. He returned to the first team squad at the start of the 2023/24 season and played 45 minutes of a League Cup tie against Doncaster Rovers in early August 2023, but saw out the rest of the season in the Under-21s and was released by the Tigers in May 2024.

Vaughn Patrick Covil was born in California but grew up in Wiltshire and held dual nationality. He was part of the Southampton academy system until the age of 16 when he was snapped up by progressive League Two side Forest Green Rovers. He made his Forest Green debut aged 16 in an October 2019 EFL Trophy tie against Coventry City and ended the 2019/20 season with four senior appearances, two in the EFL Trophy and two in the League. He added 3 more EFL Trophy appearances in the 2020/21 season and spent a month on loan at Southern League Premier League side Salisbury. Covil spent much of the 2021/22 season on loan at Southern League Division One side Melksham Town, making 33 appearances before joining the Tigers during the 2022 close season.

In August 2024 Covil returned to the United States and signed for US League side Las Vegas Lights.

Vaughn’s dual nationality meant he was called up for the USA Under-15 and England Under-16 squads while at Southampton. In October 2023 he was selected for a largely under-21 side chosen to represent USA in the 2023 Pan American Games held in Chile.
