1080 James Berry

Biography

Young City forward James Berry signed from Wigan Athletic’s academy in November 2019, having played for Liverpool’s academy as a teenager,. He made his City debut in February 2020 and joined the first team squad at the start of Grant McCann’s 2020/21 League One campaign, however a serious injury curtailed his contribution before it began. In July 2021 his contract was terminated by mutual consent allowing him to find a new club.

In August 2021 Berry joined Conference National side Altrincham but he was unable to break into the first team and quickly joined North West Counties League club Macclesfield on loan. He made a permanent transfer to Macclesfield in March 2022 and ended the 2021/22 season with 22 goals in 38 appearances. That form continued in the 2022/23 season with Macclesfield elevated to the Northern Premier League and Berry netting 26 times in 35 appearances.

In August 2023, now sporting a new moniker James Berry-McNally, Berry signed for Conference National challengers Chesterfield, making his debut a couple of days later against Oxford City. He was used as impact substitute for much of the first half of the 2023/24 season as Chesterfield led the Conference National table.
