1051 Harry Wilson

Biography

Winger Wilson joined City at the end of the January 2018 transfer window on a half season loan.  He sat on the City bench immediately, making his debut at Preston and scoring his first goal at Nottingham Forest a week later.  Within a handful of games he was established as a first team must, adding goals to assists and an attacking threat.  It is tempting to say that Harry’s strike rate and general ability to scare defenders witless with his direct running, was a pivotal reason for City’s springtime revival and move out of relegation danger.

Born in North Wales, Wilson became Liverpool’s and Wales’ youngest senior international in 2013 when he made his debut at 16.  Having spent a spell on loan at Crewe in 2015, his debut first team appearance for the Reds came in the FA Cup in 2017.

Following his half season at City, Wilson spent the whole of 2018/19 season at Derby County, assisting them with goals and assists as they made it to the play-off final, where they fell just short.  The next season was spent at Bournemouth, again on loan, and he shone occasionally on the Premier League stage.

After spending the summer of 2020 fielding rumours about a £20 million transfer, Wilson stayed at Liverpool and started an October 2020 League Cup tie against Arsenal. Two weeks later he was loaned to Championship side Cardiff City, where Harry made 37 appearances and scored seven goals as Mick McCarthy’s appointment sparked a revival that took the Bluebirds close to a play-off finish. Wilson scored his first career hattrick against Birmingham City in May 2021.

In July 2021 Wilson left Liverpool- his two senior appearances for the Reds were supplemented 143 appearances and 39 goals for his five loan clubs. He signed for Fulham, newly relegated to the Championship, who were managed by ex-City boss Marco Silva and willing to pay a £12m fee for Harry’s services. He scored on his Fulham debut against Middlesbrough in August 2021 and scored eleven goals in the 2021/22 season as Fulham breezed to the Championship title. Restored to the Premier League, Wilson helped Silva’s Cottagers establish themselves as part of the Premier League furniture with two mid-table finishes.

As well as his debut senior cap in 2013, Wilson has made appearances for Wales at U17, U19 and U21 level. He was progressively reintroduced to the Wales international squad from 2017 onwards and became an important part of the Red Dragons’ attacking prowess, scoring his first international goal in March 2018 against China (while on loan at Hull City). He was part of the Wales squad that competed in the Euro 2020 finals, held back to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
