1016 Greg Olley

Biography

Wide midfielder Olley signed for City in 2015, but he didn’t make his senior debut until August 2016 when he started a League Cup tie at Exeter City.  He made one further League Cup appearance the following season before his release in May 2018.

Olley was a junior at Newcastle United and had recently been released by the Magpies when City signed him from non-League South Shields.

On his release from the Tigers Greg returned to the North East and joined Conference National title challengers Gateshead.  He had an impressive first season at Gateshead, scoring 8 goals in 41 starts, and scored another 4 goals in the foreshortened 2019/20 season. He was retained by Gateshead for the 2020/21 season and captained the side as they rose to the Conference National league at the end of the 2021/22 season. After Conference status was secured late in the 2022/23 season, Olley committed to a further two years at Gateshead despite repeated approaches from Football League clubs. In August 2024 he suffered a broken leg that ended his involvement for much of the 2024/25 season.

In March 2020 Olley was called up to the England C squad, players drawn from the semi-professional game, however the planned C international against Wales was cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID19.
