1011 Joshua Tymon

Biography

Prodigiously powerful left sided defender Tymon was given his first team debut by Steve Bruce at 16 years old, by which time he was already the outstanding product of City’s academy for many years.  Joshua played a supporting role during the 2016/17 Premier League season, scoring his first goal for his home town club in a FA Cup tie against Swansea City.

By the summer of 2017 there was a clear disharmony between the club’s owners and the player in respect of his contract situation (Josh was still on trainee terms) and the bright lights of Stoke City lured him back to the Premier League.  In his first year at Stoke he saw his parent club relegated and had a tricky loan spell at League One relegation victims Milton Keynes Dons – life learning experiences.  His second season was also barren and in July 2019 he headed to Portugal for a season long loan at FC Famalicao.

It took until the 2020/21 season for Tymon to establish himself at Stoke under new manager Michael O’Neill when he made 29 appearances and became a regular feature in the Potters’ defence. After two further seasons Tymon’s tally for the Potters reached four goals in 122 appearances.

In August 2023 Tymon transferred to Championship rivals Swansea City and quickly became an integral part of the Swans’ first team.

Tymon has been picked for England at under-17, under-18 and under-20 levels, in each occasion giving his peers at least a year in age.
