Biography

Striker Martin was added to the City squad in August 2018 to enliven Nigel Adkins’ first full season in the Championship. His debut came as a late substitute against Ipswich in mid-September, and he duly helped set up a goal for Jackson Irvine. As the season progressed Martin was a semi-regular starter, the positives of his guile, experience and workrate being offset by his lack of pace. He scored his second City goal against his former side Norwich in March 2019 and ended his time at City with a string of substitute appearances..
Although widely known for his Scottish roots, Martin was born in the Suffolk market town of Beccles. His career began at Norwich City, although it was initially two goal-filled loans at Luton and Crystal Palace that made his name. After just over 100 games for the Carrow Road side Martin joined Derby County in 2013. He had three successful seasons in the Rams’ first team but drifted out of favour and enjoyed further loan spells from 2016 onwards.
In September 2020 Martin left Derby to sign for Championship rivals Bristol City. After a season and a half Martin was released by the Robins in February 2023 and he signed for Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers on a short term deal. After four goals in 16 appearances for Rangers he left the club in July 2023. In September 2023 Martin joined League One side Bristol Rovers, a short term deal was soon extended as Martin scored regularly for the Gas. Retained for the 2024/25 season, Chris missed three months of football thanks to a fractured fibula sustained in August 2024. Returning to action in November 2024, he netted a New Years Day 2025 brace against Leyton Orient and scored twice against Bolton Wanderers in March 2025, which turned out to be his last game for the Gas as they headed towards relegation to League Two. Martin left Bristol Rovers in June 2025 having scored 21 goals in 66 appearances across two seasons.
Although capped for England under-19s in 2007, Martin declared his allegiance to Scotland in 2014 and is a senior semi-regular north of the border.
