364 Harvey Elliott

Biography

Harvey Elliott was an inside forward plucked from the Manchester area in November 1946 as Tigers’ manager Major Frank Buckley assembled a squad to compete at Division Three North level at a time when potential players were being demobilised from the Forces and others were starting their National Service. Elliott started four games for City during the winter and early spring months, mostly at inside right, leading to two victories and two defeats. His services were not retained at the end of the season and in July 1947 he joined Cheshire League side Mossley. After four starts for the Pennines side and two goals – one a fluke that flew in from distance as he was tackled – Elliott appeared to drift out of football by the end of 1947.

Elliott was born in Middleton, a cotton mill town and railway terminus between Rochdale and Oldham, and as a teenager he worked as a drayman. He settled back in the Manchester area after his short football career and died in February 1996.
