William Johnson was an amateur footballer who served in the Army and played football for Beverley Barracks – he was also reputed to be a capable boxer. He played for City’s reserves during January 1920 and was elevated to the first eleven in February 1920, playing on the right wing. He played further games for City’s Reserves in the early stages of the 1920/21 season but was not selected again for the first team.
