Biography
Attacking midfielder William Anthony “Billy” Chadwick came through the Hull City academy ranks and made his debut in an EFL Trophy tie in September 2020. After further substitute appearances during November 2020 Billy was given a contract extension until 2022. In December 2020 he joined Conference side Halifax Town on loan, scoring on his debut against Hartlepool United and finishing his one month spell at The Shay with three goals in five appearances. He returned in late January and made four substitute appearances for the Tigers first team before again joining Halifax on loan in March 2021 and scoring another handful of goals.
In July 2021 he joined Northern Irish side Linfield on a half season loan alongside Ahmed Salam and he impressed with his goalscoring prowess in Europa Conference League matches as well as NIFL games, but his loan was cut short in November 2021 by a nasty knee injury and he returned to Hull for treatment. A year later Chadwick was rehabilitated and in January 2023 he joined National League North side Boston United on a one month loan designed to build match fitness that extended to the end of the season – he scored freely for Boston, netting eleven goals in 20 appearances including two spectacular long range efforts. He was released by the Tigers in May 2023.
In June 2023, amid much interest from lower league clubs, Billy signed for ambitious League Two side Stockport County, however two months later he joined Conference National side Gateshead on a season long loan. By New Years Day 2024 Billy had scored four goals in 22 appearances for The Heed when he made his final appearance against York City. In the space of 24 hours he was recalled by Stockport County, released from his contract and joined Conference National side York City, the club he had just played against.
Chadwick made his York City debut in January 2024 against Boreham Wood, the same side he had made his Gateshead debut against four months earlier, and scored his first goals for the Minstermen when netting a March 2024 brace against Wealdstone. He ended the 2023/24 season with three goals in 19 appearances for a York City that narrowly avoided the Conference National relegation places. After starting the 2024/25 season in the York City first team squad, Chadwick fell out of favour in October 2024 as the Minstermen topped the Conference National table. He was loaned to Conference National rivals Boston United in November 2024, assisting the Pilgrims for a second time as they assimilated to new management following the dismissal of Ian Culverhouse.
