Biography
Mark Christopher Kilgallon was a teenage forward born and raised in the Bishopbriggs district of Glasgow who had spent several years playing for Celtic Boys ahead of a season in the youth team at Ipswich Town. Thanks to assistant manager Cyril Lea’s connections with Ipswich Town he joined Hull City in June 1980, initially for a six week trial. After netting a hattrick in a pre-season match against a Withernsea XI he signed a one year deal and went on to serve City’s Reserves side regularly. Mark’s only first team appearance, coming on as a 76th minute substitute, came days after signing that one year deal.
Hull City’s financial difficulties meant Kilgallon was transfer listed in March 1980, he returned to Scotland that summer and played junior football for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy before deciding that football wasn’t for him.
Kilgallon retrained as a police officer after undertaking a degree in Criminology at Glasgow University. He then completed a PhD and became a well regarded academic and adviser on the ethics and behaviours of senior leaders in many organisations, based in Berkshire.
