Biography

Young outside left Sydney Simms was an employee at Hatfield Main Colliery near Doncaster who had played for Hatfield Main Colliery and Thorne Collery prior to joining Hull City in December 1934 after a failed trial at West Bromwich Albion. Simms was thrust straight into first team action over the 1934 festive period while still on trial, starting at West Ham United. He signed a professional contract in early January 1935 and started two more games, drawing his first team career to a rapid close. Simms left the club in the 1935 close season.
He later played for Scarborough and Peterborough United before returning to South Yorkshire to play for Ollerton Colliery up until the start of World War Two.
