269 Edward Lloyd

Biography

Left back Edward Lloyd joined City in June 1933 but had to wait until April 1934 for his first team debut thanks to the form of rival left back Cliff Woodhead. Although he stayed with the Tigers until August 1935, this turned out to be Lloyd’s only first team appearance.

Born in Oldham, Edward Hugh Lloyd was in his mid-20s when he joined Stockport County in the 1930 close season from the amateur ranks of Oldham Athletic. He made two first team appearances in the last few games of 1930/31 season, but was a first team regular for the Hatters for two seasons ahead of his move to Hull City, compiling 68 senior starts in total.

Lloyd joined Carlisle United in August 1935 and was an ever-present in the League for the Cumbrians during the 1935/36 season, making 44 appearances in total. However he moved to Scunthorpe & Lindsey United in the 1936 close season and saw out his playing days in the Manchester non-league scene. He later moved to North Wales and died in Llandudno in November 1976.
