It took a year to land his man, but in the end Peter Taylor made local lad Woodhouse his first signing of the Championship return pre-season. While it could be questioned whether £25,000 midfielders were exactly what we needed to spearhead a Championship challenge, the facts were that Curtis was a million pound Premiership player when he was 21 so must have had something about him. After a reasonable start on the fringes of the first team Woodhouse fell out of favour - off-pitch misdemeanours were rumoured - and 8 months after signing he moved on to Grimsby Town.
That summer he turned his back on football in favour of a career as a professional boxer, which was briefly curtailed after one bout when he was convicted of affray after a WKD fuelled bender in Bridlington and the British Boxing Board of Control revoked his licence. Shorn of his pugilistic career, he started up football again in November 2006, joining Rushden & Diamonds before attempting a return to the ring in January 2007 once his appeal was accepted. By the following March he was back at Rushden and now combines his footballing and punching, taking care not to confuse the two on Saturday afternoons.
