A player with genuine Premiership pedigree, Stockdale is a five time Scotland international (despite winning England Under-21 caps under Peter Taylor) and was at Middlesbrough until Summer 2004 when he joined Rotherham.  This move was a disaster, coinciding with the Millers' collapse to the foot of the Championship, so in February 2005 the Tigers took over Robbie's contract (the same day that Ronnie Moore was sacked).  A tidy right back equally adept at coming forward as he is defending, Stockdale failed to make any kind of impression and after three months he was back on the transfer list.  After two solid seasons at Tranmere he was jettisoned back east to Grimsby.
