Experienced midfield engine room operative signed on a free from Mansfield.  Although initially it seemed that "Scuff" would be acquired for 2000/1 to fill in for Warren's injuries and suspensions, the manager's semi-retirement meant that Schofield was a key part of the Tigers' defensive unit.  After a touchline altercation Schofield was confined to substitute duties for the latter half of the season before being shown the door by Brian Little.
On leaving City Schofield embarked on a long spell on the Lincoln City management team that culminated in his elevated to team manager in 2006, a position he was relieved of after a poor start to the 2007-08 season.
