The loan signing of former England international Rocastle in early 1997-98 created a buzz throughout Hull and instantly put an extra thousand or so on the crowd.  Seemingly relishing the chance to be rescued from languishing in the post-Gullit Chelsea wilderness, Rocastle immediately showed his superior touch and eye for goal.  Alas, injury struck and as results plummeted, Rocastle was released to ply his trade in the Malaysia regional "M-League".

Tragically, Rocastle was diagnosed with cancer in February 2001 and after a short illness died on 31st March 2001 at the age of 33.
