Sat 8 May, Nationwide League Division 3

Bristol Rovers - (H) Won 3-0

As a preamble to the promotion celebrations, this game had a pre-season friendly feel about it until City exploded with three excellent goals in fifteen second half minutes.  Ian Thomson's tosses his cap into the air amid the euphoria.

Sat 1 May, Nationwide League Division 3

Yeovil Town - (A) Won 2-1

City's first ever League visit to Yeovil, and what a match!  Led by the giant Ian Ashbee, who capped a captain's performance with a superb winning goal, City secured promotion for the first time in 19 years.  Euphoria on and off the pitch is detailed by Steve Weatherill.

Sat 24 April, Nationwide League Division 3

Huddersfield Town - (H) Drew 0-0

Marred only by a serious knee injury to lading scorer Ben Burgess, this was a fine match played out by two decent teams in front of two sizeable and passionate supports.  And the other 15,000 in the City end.  Steve Weatherill chalks up yet another point in the rather slow moving promotion quest.

Tue 20 April, Nationwide League Division 3

Southend United - (A) Drew 2-2

A win would have put the Tigers on the brink of promotion, but a spirited Southend side held City to a keenly fought and entertaining draw.  Ian Thomson reports.

Sat 17 April, Nationwide League Division 3

Macclesfield Town - (H) Drew 1-1

With promotion perhaps only 90 minutes away, City were held to a decent point by a committed and decent Macclesfield side marshaled by ex-City boss Brian Horton.  Mike Scott is "wind-swept and interesting" as your match reporter.

Mon 12 April, Nationwide League Division 3

Swansea City - (A) Won 3-2

A superb match that culminated in a City winner that lifts us to within touching distance of promotion to Division 2.  At the same time, the Swansea hoodoo is finally ended.  Steve Weatherill pilots us into the final furlong.

Sat 10 April, Nationwide League Division 3

Northampton Town - (H) Lost 2-3

The Division's form team Northampton steamrollered City with a devastating - and at times jammy - first half performance.  City came back in the second half, but not strongly enough.  Mike Scott takes solace from other results going our way.

Kidderminster Harriers - (A) Drew 1-1

At the business end of the season it is points ground out against limited but full blooded opposition that count in the promotion chase.  Mark Gretton reports on a decent point won in just such circumstances.

Wed 31 March, Nationwide League Division 3

Boston United - (A) Won 2-1

It's a quaint and enduring town, but it's not really a football league venue.  Nevertheless Boston will be in Div 3 again next season, but on this showing City won't.  Mike Scott can almost touch promotion after this comfortable win.

Sat 27 March, Nationwide League Division 3

Rochdale - (H) Won 1-0

Struggling at the foot of the table, Rochdale come to the KC and put on a spirited performance that left the result in doubt until the end.  Eventually a splendid Delaney goal was the difference between the teams.  Steve Weatherill reports.

Tue 16 March, Nationwide League Division 3

Leyton Orient - (H) Won 3-0

Two fine performances in four days as City deliver a bit of a spanking to a limited Leyton side.  Keith Dean purrs as the Tigers cruise clear in second place in the table.

Sat 13 March, Nationwide League Division 3

Scunthorpe United - (H) Won 2-1

A storming first half swept the Tigers to three points thanks to a fine brace by Ben Burgess.  The second half was more fraught after Scunthorpe got one back, but Steve Weatherill nonetheless enjoyed the victory.

Sat 6 March, Nationwide League Division 3

Mansfield Town - (A) Lost 0-1

Despite a period of domination in the second half, City again match their top six opponents without really looking like scoring, and a solitary goal was enough to see the Stags claim all 3 points.  Mike Scott hopes for better, soon.

Sat 28 February, Nationwide League Division 3

Lincoln City - (A) Lost 0-2

A remarkable game, with City delivering to Lincoln a severe second half chasing, only to concede two late goals and lose two in a row for the first time in the League this season.  Steve Weatherill scratches his head in surprise.

Sat 21 February, Nationwide League Division 3

Torquay United - (H) Lost 0-1

Torquay dominate City for a second time this season, making their fringe-of-play-offs position all the more baffling.  Steve Weatherill reports on an injury decimated Tigers eleven taking a mauling for a change, rather than delivering it.

Carlisle United - (A) Drew 1-1

Bottom versus top this may have been, but Carlisle didn't make it easy for City.  Neither did the injuries.  Nevertheless Stuart Green claimed a point after a torrent of abuse from the home fans.  Mark Gretton reports. 

Sat 7 February, Nationwide League Division 3

York City - (H) Won 2-1

Plucky and well organised York provided decent opposition for the table topping Tigers, but eventually the emergence of debutant Jon Walters sealed the Minstermen's fate as City make it 7 wins on the spin.  Ian Thomson reports. 

Sat 24 January, Nationwide League Division 3

Cheltenham Town - (A) Won 2-0

Not so many thrills and spills as last week, but enough steady performance and a second half goal spree saw the Tigers claim the three points and avenge November's cup defeat against Cheltenham.  Mark Gretton writes. 

Sat 17 January, Nationwide League Division 3

Oxford United - (H) Won 4-2

City swat aside the main title rivals Oxford in thrilling fashion, as a goal-fest midway through the second half leaves Ian Atkins' high ball outfit stunned.  Steve Weatherill recovers from Total Tiger Mayhem to report.

Darlington - (A) Won 1-0

As City fans swarm to the Reynolds Arena (around half the 6,800 crowd was supporting the away team) the Tigers put in a competent if uninspiring performance to swat Darlo aside a third time this season.  Mike Scott sees City go top again.

Cambridge United - (H) Won 2-0

A really poor Cambridge side - weakened by injuries and impecunity - was swept aside by a competent Tigers performance, expertly led by Ben Burgess's strength and Stuart Elliott's goals.  Steve Weatherill writes.

Sun 28 December, Nationwide League Division 3

Doncaster Rovers - (H) Won 3-1

City come out top again in front of a sell-out crowd against table topping opposition.  Good habit, that.  Ian Thomson saw Jason Price head, shoot and handle his way up the goalscoring charts.

Fri 26 December, Nationwide League Division 3

York City - (A) Won 2-0

Meagre opposition in the rain, but three valuable points nonetheless as City's promotion campaign shows signs of spluttering back to life.  Steve Weatherill pieces his hair-drier-ed notes together and pens this report.

Mansfield Town - (H) Lost 0-1

The division's two highest scorers, bring on the goals!  Maybe a nil-nil was the smart bet, and so it proved until a wonder strike late on sent all three points west.  Mark Gretton is still waiting for the flowing football he was promised.

Scunthorpe United - (A) Drew 1-1

Honours even in a closely fought game between in-form Scunthorpe and the target of their jealousy, the rich and successful Hull City.  Steve Weatherill describes how cheats can sometimes prosper.

Bury - (H) Won 2-0

While rivals dreamt of FA Cup glory, City got down to business in a rearranged league fixture against a weak Bury side and came out comfortable victors.  Good form restored?  Steve Weatherill reports on proceedings

Bristol Rovers - (A) Lost 1-2

A descent into formless football and defensive attitudes sees the Tigers capitulate against meagre Bristolian opposition.  Mike Scott sees the parallels with Little's last season in charge.

Yeovil Town - (H) Drew 0-0

A great advert for Division Three, City returned to table-topping form against a well-organised and useful Yeovil side in this exciting but ultimately goalless encounter.  Steve Weatherill explains how such form can see us topple from the top.

Huddersfield Town - (A) Lost 1-3

Still top of the league, but City's mini-slump continues with defeat at the MacAlpine as a useful Huddersfield side are rewarded generously with three poorly defended goals.  Mark Gretton was amongst the 4,000 disappointed.

Sat 8 November, F A Cup First Round Proper

Cheltenham Town - (A) Lost 1-3

In horse racing country a strange starting line-up and a poor performance saw City crash out of the Cup at the first hurdle.  City can now forget the eight furlong sprint and concentrate on the 4 mile chase.  Steve Weatherill gives the SP.

Tue 4 November, LDV Vans Trophy Northern Section Second Round

Scunthorpe United - (H) Lost 1-3

City reserves bow out of the LDV Vans Trophy in tough-tackling Scunthorpe United's Cup final.  Keith Dean describes proceedings.

Sat 1 November, Nationwide League Division 3

Macclesfield Town - (H) Drew 2-2

They came, they saw, the went home with points.  Just the usual scenario for Macclesfield in Hull, except this time they only claimed one point.  Not bad with ten men.  Ian Thomson describes a bad day at the City office.

Sat 25 October, Nationwide League Division 3

Lincoln City - (H) Won 3-0

Another unwanted record falls at City beat Lincoln for the first time in 10 meetings.  After earning the right ot play against organised and committed opposition, City swept aside their south bank neighbours under the guidance of unlikely hero Andy Holt.  Mark Gretton explains how that could be.

Tue 21 October, Nationwide League Division 3

Bury - (A) Drew 0-0

Fresh from a 0-4 chasing on Saturday, Bury shut up shop against the Tigers, who in turn showed a discernible lack of attacking invention after a bright start.  Steve Weatherill examines the resultant stalemate.

Sat 18 October, Nationwide League Division 3

Torquay United - (A) Drew 1-1

Torquay use slick passing and intelligent strike play to show that the Tigers are not invincible.  Yet despite utter first half domination City fight back to earn a point and nearly made it three.  Steve Weatherill basks in autumnal equality.

Tue 14 October, LDV Vans Trophy Northern Section First Round

Darlington - (A) Won 3-1

Peter Taylor gives the reserves a chance to impress and in the main they respond positively, seeing off a very poor Darlington side in our first visit to the impressive Reynolds Arena.  Mike Scott gets Cup fever.

Sun 12 October, Nationwide League Division 3

Carlisle United - (H) Won 2-1

Well City's form had to dip some time - but another three point was nonetheless claimed in front of mammoth crowd as hapless Carlisle make it three opponents in a row finishing a man short.  Mark Gretton describes the scene.

Northampton Town - (A) Won 5-1

The culmination of a remarkable week, City score another hatful of quality goals to dispatch poor opposition.  Mike Scott tries not to drool as he reports on matters.

Top of the table clash.  Lock out at the KC.  Two fine teams.  City win.  It's not often Steve Weatherill gets to report on that lot.

Rampant Tigers batter lowly Kidderminster into submission with a second half goal feast, high on quality as well as numbers.  Mark Gretton reports on an embarrassment of riches, and a debut goal for Ryan France.

Rochdale - (A) Won 2-0

Better.  City turned in a powerful second half performance to quell a lively Rochdale side and claim the three points.  Steve Weatherill describes how a remarkable win was registered without Steve Melton getting on.

Shorn of attacking threats Price and Allsopp, a point at Brisbane Road - where defeat usually beckons towards the Tigers - was perhaps a good result.  But Ian Thomson tells how a little more adventure may have seen off the London strugglers.

Southend United - (H) Won 3-2

A game packed with action and mistakes featuring goalkeeping excellence by City loanee Michel Kuipers and goalkeeping incompetence by the fumbling Southend netminder.  Mike Scott looks beyond the No.1s and sees hope.

Doncaster Rovers - (A) Drew 0-0

In front of the Sky cameras City and Donny played out a 0-0 draw that started promising but ended up a dour Yorkshire derby.  Mark Gretton describes a point grafted for and won.

Boston United - (H) Won 2-1

Certainly not a classic, but three more points ground out against committed but limited Boston opposition.  Steve Weatherill reports on the right result, but wrong performance.

Cambridge United - (A) Won 2-0

A first half in which Cambridge took a thorough chasing from the rampant Tigers, then second half with the shop firmly shut up.  Mike Scott reports on a hugely encouraging performance.

Cheltenham Town - (H) Drew 3-3

Two defences crumbled simultaneously to provide a frantic goal feast that ended up with honours even.  Steve Weatherill rises to the challenge of piecing this barnstormer together.

Oxford United - (A) Lost 1-2

In what could prove to be a clash of promotion rivals come next May, Oxford squeezed out the Tigers with quickfire goals and a solid defence.  Ian Thomson sees promise in adversity.

Tue 12 August, Carling Cup First Round

Wigan Athletic - (A) Lost 0-2

Mike Scott reports on a match where, despite the comfortable scoreline for the very capable home side, City once again showed their attacking credentials to thrilling effect.

Darlington - (H) Won 4-1

In the stifling heat of a East Coast heatwave the new Tiger breed dismissed likely strugglers Darlington with a powerful second half performance.  Steve Weatherill mops his brow and delivers the first OC7 match report of the season.
