Irish international McShane spent several years at Manchester United where he made only loan appearances before moves to West Bromwich and Sunderland.  His form at Sunderland during 2007-08 dipped before he suffered a knee injury, so McShane represented a risky loan acquisition for the Tigers.  But his form at the KC was largely impeccable and he scored a famous goal at Anfield before being recalled in somewhat spiteful fashion by Sunderland in January 2009.  Back at the Ladium of Shight, he immediately conceded a penalty on his first game back - good lad!
After a decent 2009 pre-season for new Sunlan boss Steve Bruce, McShane was injured before he could return to the first team and returned to Hull permanently at the end of August to sign a four year contract.  His all-action style caught him out a few times in the Premier League but one always knew that McShane was giving 100%. Alas pure effort alone was not enough to secure a berth in Nigel Pearson's and Nick Barmby's free passing Tigers sides, and after a torrid 90 minutes at Burnley McShane was rapidly redeployed south to Crystal Palace.
