Signed for an undisclosed fee, Marney was a progressive midfielder that made a splash when scoring twice during his second league start for Tottenham, only to drift around a few clubs on loan prior to signing for the Tigers.  His first season at the KC was mixed to say the least as he struggled in a struggling team - his corners and free kicks being legendarily poor - but towards the end of the season he found some form, culminating in a game-changing second half performance at Cardiff that secured City's Championship survival.  He contributed some fine performances in his second season, but was on the fringes of the side during the play-off win at Wembley.  His good form continued in the Premier League but as City's form dipped so did Dean's and he still had much to prove as City slipped out of the Premier League.  In May 2010 his place on the steepling wage bill was vacated as he moved to Burnley for a £500k fee.  Daylight robbery by the Tigers if truth be known.
