Combative young Irish midfielder - an Under-21 colleague of Damien Delaney and Ben Burgess - Keane was City's first signing of Summer 2004. A skillful player that played centrally or left of midfield, as well as left-back, Keane came from Preston with a fiery reputation. His early form with City was patchy, but he contributed some nice goals that were normally succeeded by much badge-kissing and name-on-shoulder pointing. Not perhaps actions to everyone's taste.
After receiving a red card for violent conduct in a reserve game Keane felt the wrath of Peter Taylor and by March 2005 he was loaned and then given a free transfer at Rotherham amid press statements by Taylor that the player had no future at the club. Not a great loss, I regret to say.
In July 2007 he signed for St Patrick's Athletic, who in July 2008 terminated his contract for returning to pre-season training in an excessively overweight state. Stupid get!
