Comment
Warren enjoyed a long journeyman career, largely in the Lancashire football belt, before signing for City as a replacement for Greg Abbott in midfield.  After a season of minimal effort, disgrace and insult as Terry Dolan's on-field presence, Warren was reborn as a skilful and willing midfield general under Hateley.
It was no surprise that the respect he commanded from younger players at City led Tom Belton to name him player manager on Hateley's departure.  The lift his appointment gave the club was immense and certain relegation was averted in the famous "Great Escape" season.
Alas, the demise of Belton and the rise of Buchanan conspired to snooker Joyce's chances of further managerial glory and he was cruelly sacked in April 2000 to make way for Brian Little.  For his contribution to City's survival from the brink of oblivion he should be remembered as one of City's most important managers of all time.
His undoubted coaching abilities landed him a plum job tutoring the youth talent of Leeds United, which he held until their descent down the leagues began.  Was on the coaching staff at Stockport County before taking the role of Centre of Excellence Manager at Tranmere in August 2005.  In the Summer 2006 he was appointed head coach of Belgian sleeping giants Royal Antwerp, which he did successfully until the Summer of 2008 when he was appointed reserve team coach for Manchester United.
