Powerful Lincolnshire-raised Hobbs made a solitary appearance for Lincoln at the age of sixteen before Liverpool swopped in a £750,000 deal.  A few years on Hobbs had failed to make his Anfield mark and he joined Leicester City, where he was tutored by City manager Nigel Pearson.  He was player of the season at the Walkers Stadium in 2009-10, but when Sven Goran Eriksson took the Foxes' reins he decided Hobbs was surplus to needs and he was loaned to the Tigers to lend power and presence to the City play-off challenge.  He started powerfully against Derby and established a strong presence alongside fellow loanee Anthony Gerrard - form that encouraged City to sign Hobbs up permanently that Summer.  And his towering presence was an ever present in the City defence as the Tigers climbed the league.
