Striker Hargreaves spent two years at City, and showed that he could play. Alas, he simply could not score, and the longer the barren spell (save for a Cup goal against Runcorn) went on, the worse the problem got. Hargreaves went on to a decent League career, although he was unfortunate to join Hereford just as they lost their League status.  Subsequently operated in midfield for Brentford after four years as a Cobbler, and rippled the net occasionally before sinking out of the League with Oxford and joining similarly relegated Torquay in Summer of 2007.  Remarkably, Hargreaves returned to league action in 2009-10 as Torquay lifted themselves out of the Conference and he continues to perform a vital central midfield duty into his late 30s before returning to Oxford in January 2010.
Hargreaves has since written an entertaining book about his days in the lower leagues and his hell-raising times in the barrios of Grimsby and Cleethorpes.  Worth a read.
