Jan Molby's first signing, on a season-long loan deal, Green was a powerful and skillful midfield presence.  A quality signing, Green attracted considerable interest from several clubs wishing to lure him away from Newcastle and Hull in a permanent deal - in the end Adam Pearson paid £150,000 to secure his services on the morning of the Boxing Day 2002 KC Stadium curtain raiser.
Only five weeks after his permanent signing Green threw a wobbly after being dropped from the first team, received a two weeks' wages fine and slunk off to Carlisle on loan, his home town club.  He again threw his toys weeks later and was ejected from the team coach by bonkers Carlisle manager Roddy Collins.  A talented boy, but in need to demonstrating commitment to the Tigers cause, he returned for the start of 2003-04 and was broadly welcomed by the less-fickle-than-you-might-think City faithful.
Green then lurked around the fringes of Peter Taylor's first team for three seasons, but the introduction of Phil Parkinson at the helm did not suit Green well and he rejoined Taylor at Crystal Palace for a £75k fee in August 2006.  Taylor's replacement by Neil Warnock was bad news for Stuart - he was just about the farthest one can get from a "Neil Warnock type" of player - and after a couple of months in the wilderness he joined Blackpool, linking up with several of his ex-Tiger colleagues. After a season and a half in the reserves, Green was reunited with Peter Taylor at Wycombe Wanderers.
August 2011 - joined Workington Reds.
