The second signing of the summer prior to City's first season in the top flight, and what a statement. A Brazilian international striker with four caps and a first team history with Barcelona and Benfica joins the Tigers on a free transfer from Manchester City. Truly truly remarkable stuff.
Manchester City signed him from Cruzeiro after a trial with Portsmouth and he made an early impression, scoring on his debut and potting the winner in the Manchester derby. But his star descended as Sven Goran Eriksson's early honeymoon period declined into grief, argument and separation and he was made available to the Tigers on a free transfer.
Geovanni then made a dream Tigers debut, netting City's first ever top flight goal, before going on to bag wonder strikes at Arsenal at Tottenham in consecutive matches. With his legendary status assured, Geo drifted in and out of the limelight for the rest of the season and after a decent goalscoring start to 2009-10 his form faded, partly due to Phil Brown's increasingly bizarre positional decisions for the Brazilian, and by Summer 2010 City were out of the Premier League and Geo had his contract paid up. Despite this disappointing end, Geovanni will remain one of the most extravagantly skilled players to ever done the black and amber and contributed astounding goals during the finest period of the club's history.
