An archetypal defensive warhorse, Gage enjoyed a long and fruitful career at Wimbledon, Aston Villa and Sheffield United. After signing from Preston both injury and inadequacy limited his first team appearances and he was off-loaded as part of Warren Joyce's 1999 squad clear-out.
