Clever striker with a fine goalscoring record and plenty of experience, Phil Parkinson turned to former Reading team-mate Forster on transfer deadline day to kick start the terrible start made to the 2006-7 season.  After an early career in the non-leagues Forster netted regularly for Gillingham and Brentford before a big money move to Birmingham in 1997.  His two years at St Andrews were mainly spent coming off the bench, and he moved to Reading in 1999 with something still to prove.  60-odd goals in six years achieved this and he moved to Ipswich at the end of his contract, only to fall victim of niggling injuries.
Forster lasted until the Summer of 2007, playing a key role in City's Championship survival without really contributing goals in the volume hoped for.  He was signed by Brighton for £75,000 in June 2007 and continued to score goals into his late 30s, getting snapped up on loan by promotion chasing Charlton Athletic in March 2010 and then returning to Brentford in June 2010.
During February 2011 Forster was appointed player manager at Brentford, following the departure of Andy Scott, but was jettisoned the following summer and dropped briefly into the depths of the non-leagues with Sussex County League side Lingfield. During September 2011 Forster was appointed player manager of Dover Athletic.
