 One of a promising crop of juniors groomed by Neil Mann, Featherstone made his League debut in December 2006 as a late replacement for Craig Fagan and was well regarded for a time as a combative young forward in the Nicky Barmby mould.  However he failed to develop sufficiently as the Tigers strode into the Premier League and entered 2010-11 in no-squad-number limbo before signing for Hereford United.
