Hull City's record signing at £210,000 at the time, Dudfield came to Boothferry Park with a brief to score goals.  His early season form in tandem with Gary Alexander proved his worth, however during 2002 his form dipped and under Jan Molby he was chosen only intermittently in the first eleven.  After recovering from injury Lawrie struggled to force his way into Peter Taylor's plans and he left to join Northampton on a free transfer after an end of season loan spell.  Has since bumped around the Third Division scoring a modest number of goals along the way, before joining the Irish leagues in July 2008 with Cork City.  By January 2009 he was back in England, signing for non-League Chelmsford City, switching to Corby Town that May.
In March 2011 it was reported in the Nottingham Forest matchday programme that Dudfield had stopped playing and was Community Manager for the Trent-side club.
