Peter Taylor's first act as City manager was to purchase this Irish-born left-sided utility player for £50,000 from his former club Leicester City.  Damien was a tall player with good ball skills and a willingness to run into space all day.  His wholehearted attitude had in time won over detractors who - perhaps unfairly - maligned the big fella as he was assigned a variety of roles by Taylor.  He eventually blossomed in a central defensive role after having had a try at left-back and midfield, and was an aggressive and talented asset to the squad.
After five years loyal service Damien's form was beginning to wane as City pushed on up the Championship table, so it was with some surprise that the club accepted £600,000 of your English pounds from Queens Park Rangers in exchange for his services.  Good business.  A season and a half later, after playing for what seemed like a dozen managers at Loftus Road, Damo joined fellow Corkonian Roy Keane's push for Premier League glory at Ipswich Town.
