This tall and quick centre back was given a League Cup start just before his 17th birthday at a League Cup tie at Swansea.  After two further League Cup outings he was given his Premier League debut in September 2009 when he was deputed to marshal the extravagant skills of Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt.  He did OK, despite City losing 6-1.  He entered 2010-11 as an established member of City's rapidly evolving Championship defence, and was loaned to Carlisle for some lower league toughening in January 2011.  Liam spent the first half of the following season toughening up in League 1 with Huddersfield Town before returning to stake his claim in Nick Barmby's Tigers.
