Powerful and experienced centre back signed by Phil Brown for £450,000 to add strength to the City back four.  Made an immediate impact, shoring up a defensive backline prone to occasional creaking and sharing the motivational and organisational burden with skipper Ian Ashbee.  Brown went on to play a vital role in City's successful play-off push and gave us one of the defining Wembley moments as deep into injury time he leapt elatedly onto Boaz Myhill's shoulders after the keeper had pouched Bristol City's last threat, a speculative right wing cross.  His contribution in the Premier League was limited and he returned to the Championship and League One during loan spells before signing for Leicester City on their return to the second tier.  After a season at the Walkers Stadium, Brown missed the end of season play-offs after allegations that he boasted of voting BNP at the May 2010 general election - and after being suspended by soon-to-be- City boss Nigel Pearson, he was released and signed for Preston.
