Regarded as one of the most promising English qualified strikers of the late 1990s, Bridges began his career at Sunderland before earning a £5 million move to big spending Leeds United in 1999.  After early goals at Leeds, Bridges suffered a series of long term injuries and after a brief return to Sunderland he dropped down the leagues with Bristol City and Carlisle United to resurrect his career.  An investment of £350,000 suggested that City believed his injury days were behind him and they were right, except that personal problems hampered his progress despite a handful of fine performances during his first season.  He entered 2007-08 with plenty to prove to Phil Brown and the City fans alike, but was soon shipped out to Sydney FC on loan.  Strewth.
By the summer of 2008 the Tigers were headed for the Premier League and Bridges was off back to Carlisle, then released the following summer and signed by Milton Keynes Dons.
