After spending his younger years amid the bright lights of Blackpool, Bonner took advantage of his 24th birthday and engineered a Bosman move to Cardiff. During a spell in the Bluebirds' stiffs he tried his luck at City during a one month loan. Alas, the loan lasted just 90 minutes and one goal before further injury curtailed this briefest of Tigers careers. He re- established himself back in the first team of the Welsh outfit fore several seasons before moving to Oldham in March 2004.  Bonner retired at the end of 2005-06 due to persistent injury problems.
Now works as Development Coach for the Centre of Excellence team at Southend United.
