An established Premier League quality midfielder with a handful of caps for Holland, 33 year old Boateng left his final year of his Middlesbrough contract for a pivotal role in Hull City's top flight survival.  George brought 11 years of top flight English experience to the KC Stadium, having cut his professional teeth at Dutch outfits Excelsior and Feyenoord.  And he soon began to turn in mammoth performances as the Tigers early season form shone.  When George was injured so City's form faded, and when he returned he was far less influential.  However he was named team captain in 2009-10 in Ian Ashbee's absence and continued to play a key role in City's engine room in a season that ended with relegation.  His contract up, George headed Med-wards to Xanthi in the Greek League.
