This powerful midfielder was signed by Jan Molby from former club Kidderminster to add strength to the Tigers' midfield.  A lengthy layoff at the start of his Tigers sojourn (a feature of his career is the regularity and length of his absences from first team action) was a taste of things to come, but Appleby did eventually started to live up to the billing given to him by Molby of "the best midfielder in the Third Division".  This despite the fact that Molby was long gone and Peter Taylor was installed at the helm.
Alas, after showing more promise in the pre-season of 2003-04, injury again prevented Appleby from playing, albeit that independent specialists had given him a clean bill of health.  Faced with a player apparently feigning injury, Adam Pearson paid him off and showed him the door in December 2003.
