Biography

Midfielder Akpan joined City at the age of 19 in March 2011 on a two month loan.  He played only two games and made no lasting impression.

Liverpudlian Akpan joined Everton as a child and progressed through the ranks to make his senior debut in 2009 in a Europa League tie.  Following his loan to City, Hope was released by Everton and he joined Crawley Town.  After a season and a half in the first team at Broadfield Stadium he signed for Reading where he again became a regular starter.  He moved back north in 2015 signing for Blackburn Rovers, after two seasons at Ewood Park he joined Burton Albion on a free transfer in July 2017.

Akpan’s parents hailed from Nigeria and he chose to represent the Super Eagles in 2013, making his senior international debut a year later.
