887 David Livermore

Biography

David Livermore technically signed for City for £500,000 from Leeds United, although in reality he spent only ten days of July 2006 on the books at Elland Road after a move from Millwall. He was an effective midfielder in his first season at City, which saw the Tigers narrowly avoid relegation. He played fewer games in his second season, partly due to there being better options and partly because he was nearing a number of appearances that would trigger a contract extension, which Phil Brown was eager to avoid. He was loaned to Oldham as the appearance threshold approached and left City in the Summer of 2008, although in the end he returned to City and appeared as emergency centre back at Sheffield United due to injuries..

Hailing from London, Livermore joined Arsenal at a young age and progressed through the ranks until his release at the age of 18. He joined Millwall and spent seven successful years in South East London, playing in an unlikely Dennis Wise-inspired FA Cup Final in 2004.

His professional career petered out after he left Hull City, with short spells at Brighton, Luton and Barnet. He then entered football management, taking over the player-manager reins at Cambridgeshire non-league side Histon for two years. In 2012 he returned to Millwall and joined the coaching staff, and was the Lions’ Assistant Manager from 2015 to his resignation, alongside boss Neil Harris, in October 2019. In January 2022 he resumed his working relationship with Harris when appointed assistant manager at League 1 side Gillingham, navigating relagation at the end of the 2021/22 season and an early season struggle at the foot of the League 2 table that was halted when new American owners bought the Gills in December 2022. After a strong start to the 2023/24 season faded as the autumn approached Livermore, and boss Harris, were dismissed by the Gills in early October 2023.
