847 Danny Allsopp

Biography

Striker Allsopp joined the Tigers in 2003 to add goals to the squad assembled by Peter Taylor to elevate City out of the fourth tier. Danny immediately hit the ground running, scoring a crowd-pleasing winner against Leeds in a pre-season friendly. His goals, in partnership with Ben Burgess and Stuart Elliott, fired the Tigers into the top 2 and eventual promotion at Yeovil. Hid second season was dogged by injuries that restricted his impact, and as City again flew high in the table Allsopp revealed his preference to fly back to his Australian homeland. He returned to Melbourne in March 2005.

Allsopp was born in Melbourne and played for three local sides. By the age of 20 his goals attracted the attention of Manchester City, who he joined in 1998. Allsopp was a Maine Road regular in his first season as the Sky Blues won promotion to the top tier. He didn’t make the grade in the Premier League and signed for Notts County in 2000. Three seasons of regular goalscoring followed, ahead of his move to City that was precipitated by County’s descent into receivership.

Allsopp joined Melbourne Victory in 2005 and enjoyed a further nine years as a professional, mostly in Australia but also featuring two short spells in Qatar and USA.

Danny won numerous caps for Australia at under-17, under-20 and under-21 levels, scoring extravagantly at a goal per game. He won only three caps at senior level between 2007 and 2009, once he had returned from England to Australia.
