807 Paul Tait

Biography

Tall striker Tait joined Brian Little’s Hull City squad on a one month loan in November 2001, coming on as substitute twice for the first team and scoring a goal in the reserves.

Newcastle born Tait played for the famous Wallsend Boys Club as a teenager and joined Everton as a trainee, but was unable to break into the first team. He joined Wigan Athletic in 1994 then a year later dropped into the non-league scene with Runcorn and Northwich Victoria. In three seasons at Drill Field Tait scored a goal every two games, form that encouraged Crewe Alexandra obring him back into the professional game. It was from Crewe that Tait joined City on loan.

In 2002 he moved to Bristol Rovers and at the age of 28 finally got a regular game in the top four divisions, scoring 19 goals in two seasons. He then drifted back into the non-league scene for the remainder of his playing days, via Rochdale.

From his mid-20s Tait was employed coaching football to youngsters whilst also playing in the non-leagues. After his playing days ended the coaching became a full time role and in 2015 he was appointed the Everton under-18s coach, responsible for developing a conveyor of young talent for the Toffees’ first team.
