1037 Daniel Batty

Biography

Youth team product Daniel Thomas Batty made his City debut in a League Cup tie at Doncaster Rovers in August 2017, after having been an unused substitute in earlier League games.  In October 2017 he was loaned to Conference National side Halifax Town to get a month of first team experience.  After sitting on the City bench for a few games Batty made a promising League debut at Brentford in the last fixture of the 2017/18 season.

He started the 2018/19 season in City’s first team engine room and immediately became a part of Nigel Adkins’ first team plans as the gaffer plotted an unlikely assault on the Championship’s upper reaches.  In the opening fixture of the 2019/20 season at Swansea Batty scored his first goal for the Tigers and was a first team semi-regular in Grant McCann’s oft-rotated high-octane midfield group.  Daniel remained committed to the cause despite City’s descent to the lower reaches of the Championship table and when the league resumed after the 2020 coronavirus pandemic it was Batty who stepped forward with powerful displays that earned him a year extension on his contract.

He started the 2020/21 season on the fringes of the first team again, but performed well when selected in Cup competitions. However as the season wore on Dan was an increasingly peripheral figure and he left the Tigers on the final day of the January 2021 transfer window, joining League One side Fleetwood Town on an initial six month contract.

Within two months he was impressing Fleetwood boss Simon Grayson and was offered an extended contract to June 2023, going on to make 17 starts in the remainder of the 2020/21 season. He scored two goals in 34 senior appearances during the 2021/22 season at the Cod Army battled against relegation. Having retained their League One status, Fleetwood started the 2022/23 season on good form and Batty scored goals in each of the first two League games, but the challenge soon fell away to mid-table and Dan added another 36 appearances. He left Fleetwood in May 2023 on expiry of his contract having scored five goals in 87 appearances.

In August 2023 Batty joined Conference National side York City.
