1005 Ryan Taylor

Biography

A right sided full back with a fearsome reputation for set piece delivery, Taylor joined the Tigers in 2015 in a bid to rekindle a career blighted by serious injuries.  Taylor made a slightly shaky debut in the opening game of 2015/16 and subsequently featured mainly in the Cups.

Scouser Taylor started his career at Tranmere Rovers, moving to Premier League Wigan Athletic at the age of 21.  Taylor’s free-kick scoring record, coupled with efficient defending, led to Newcastle acquiring him in 2009 in a trade including reluctant wide man Charles N’Zogbia.  Broken legs and other serious injuries seriously hampered his career at St James’ Park, and his contract had expired when he moved to City.

Taylor left Hull City in May 2016 and spent much of the following season at League 1 side Port Vale, two spells with the Valiants being divided by an unsuccessful trial with MSL side Chicago Fire.  Later in 2017 he switched to Indian Super League Kolkata-based side ATK. In September 2018 he returned to England, signing for Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town and staying for one season. After a period without a club Taylor joined Northern Premier League side Colne in October 2020, moving on to Buston in January 2022 before hanging up his boots during the 2022 close season.

Ryan won a handful of under-21 caps for England.
